Fake OGame Forum, Horoscopes and more in a (half)Newsday Round-up

Well, it’s been all of 4 hours since I awoke and there’ve already been two additional news items since I posted the weekly  roundup. At this rate, I’ll be writing a thousand-word essay come Monday or Friday. So, to make this easier on your time, I’ll give you all today’s news, well, today.  And I’ll be the first to admit today isn’t a blisteringly interesting round-up.

News emerged a few hours ago that an individual created an exact HTML replica of the OGame.org forum. This has resulted in several people mistakenly logging in to said forum and revealing passwords. Of course, the user would be unaware since the forums both have identical content and any new posts made would also be displayed on the copy (or perhaps it’s a redirect, I shall investigate).

Users that have stumbled upon this link and then logged in are advised to change their password immidiately. And, as usual, admin Cassandra_Vandales was on hand to help those affected by changing passwords and the like. If you have been affected, you can e-mail her at cassandravandales@community-management.net. The user Pit Viper has created a topic on the subject offering advice on what to do or not do. In it, he hypothesises that the culprits are using the information to attempt to hack game accounts. This is unfortunately just another incident of malicious people stealing (succesfully or otherwise) players’ passwords and usernames. Whether permanent damage to a gaming account comes of this is yet to be seen.

The O-Ticket Support System has a new URL, the much easier to remember http://support.ogame.org/. If one happens to visit the original URL, there is an automatic redirect to send the user to the correct address.

How does your star sign effect OGame? Well, now you can find out thanks to GNN reporter Kotaro Fuma, you can find out! In what is hoped to become a regular feature of the Galactic News Network, he provided each star sign with horoscope-esque information, some of which has come suprisingly true (said content is in a forum not available to the public). The thread can be found here. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’m going to hide. I really shouldn’t have threatened the top player in my universe.
